New call for proposals: NRP 87 "Deglobalisation and Resilience"
This National Research Programme investigates how deglobalisation dynamics and supply-chain disruptions reshape the constraints, vulnerabilities and policy choices facing Switzerland.
Based on a mandate by the Federal Council, the SNSF is launching a call for the National Research Programme "Deglobalisation and Supply Chain Resilience" (NRP 87).
NRP 87 focuses on two closely connected research areas:
The first research area examines the political and economic dynamics of deglobalisation, including the fragmentation of global markets, the erosion of multilateral rules, the rise of coercive economic statecraft, sanctions, export controls, protectionism and the regionalisation of production networks.
The second analyses Switzerland’s supply-chain vulnerabilities and resilience capacities by identifying critical dependencies, chokepoints and channels through which disruptions may cascade across firms, sectors, regions and the wider economy.
Across both areas, projects will contribute to three dimensions of inquiry: analysis, resilience mechanisms and policy design.
Involvement of relevant non-academic actors is a key characteristic of NRP 87. Each project must include at least two non-academic actors. The programme has a total budget of 5 million Swiss francs, and its projects will run for 36 months.
Submission procedure and deadlines
Applicants must submit an expression of interest via the SNSF Portal by 24 November 2026, 5 p.m. Swiss local time. This step allows the SNSF to organise the upcoming evaluation procedure. There will be no evaluation or preselection at this stage.
Please note that it will not be possible to submit a full proposal if an expression of interest is not submitted by the appropriate deadline. The submission deadline for full proposals is 19 January 2027, 5 p.m. Swiss local time.
