National Research Programme "Deglobalisation and supply chain resilience" (NRP 87)

After decades of increasing integration, the world economy is currently experiencing a marked slowdown in globalisation and growing signs of deglobalisation. This trend is characterised by slower, more fragmented, politicised or partially reversed cross-border economic integration. These developments challenge Switzerland’s liberal economic model and raise fundamental questions about how the country can preserve the benefits of openness while reducing its exposure to geopolitical fragmentation, coercive policies and disruptions in critical economic flows.

NRP 87 investigates how deglobalisation dynamics and supply-chain disruptions reshape the constraints, vulnerabilities and policy choices facing Switzerland. The programme examines the political and economic forces driving these developments. It will generate actionable knowledge, practical tools and evidence-based policy options that strengthen Switzerland’s capacity to anticipate, withstand and recover from deglobalisation pressures and disruptions to supply chains that are critical to its prosperity, security, sustainability and societal well-being.

To achieve this, the programme brings together expertise from multiple disciplines and promotes continuous exchange with public authorities, businesses, industry associations and other stakeholders.
